A huge thank you to all the people who have been in touch so far. We have learned a lot through conversations with you, and early prototyping. Thank you for your invaluable feedback. We are working hard on improving and shaping our tools in response to this. You can try out the latest prototype and we'd love to hear about it.
We spent Autumn 2019 talking to users and building the first version of our online conversations. Our first public release was a 'chatbot' called Calm Richie which several of you tried out. Richie lived on Google Assistant and was designed to be accessed from your phone with the command "Ok Google. Talk to Calm Richie". It's widely appreciated in the industry that voice-based technology has a long way to go. We now know this to be true! Even accessing the tool using voice proved difficult. Thank you for your patience!
During 2019 we made several attempts to overcome the issues with access and the voice-interface. We have decided, for the time being at least, to stick to text. That means using more traditional methods you will recognise, such as Facebook Messenger. These have their limitations, but they are still powerful and we know they can work. At a later stage we can translate what we've proven in text, in to voice. Our plan is still the same: to prove that autonomous, self-directed conversations with a computer can be helpful.
Our testers can now try out our first facebook messenger prototype. The feedback we are getting is helping is get ready for our first official prototype launch to larger audiences in 2020.
We also have a private facebook group for those wishing to share opinions and chat about the project.
If you'd like to be part of the testing community it's a great time to join in.
If for any reason you don't receive a welcome email, please let us know.
If you're up for a phone interview, we'll text you to arrange a time.
We are building, testing and improving our tools in the first quarter of 2020. After this we'll publish what we've learned and let you know what's happening next.
In terms of your involvement - it is up to you - as little or as much as you like. You don’t have to make a decision now and you can opt in or out of any of the features at any stage.
Once signed up we will email you with next steps. If you are too busy it doesn’t matter, you can just let us know. We would like a telephone number so we can contact you by text and phone and for any telephone interviews we have.
There'll be opportunities to engage in positive conversations and listen to audio recordings. Most people really enjoy these as they help them to really relax - but you won't have to. If you have any concerns please speak to your doctor or relevant professional first.
